Lubrication power for wind power

Lubrication power for wind power

We started this year with 6872 MW installed power, in which the wind industry as the locomotive of renewable energy investments of our country has gained momentum for nationalization. In line with the goal “creating a sustainable and predictable market with a high national value” as defined by Mustafa Serdar Ataseven, Turkey Wind Energy Association (TUREB) President, our sector wishes to advance in their investment processes without facing any slowdown, and is waiting for a solution to the uncertainty after 2020 without any hesitation.

While each wind turbine is important for wind power generation, this strength gains efficiency, continuity and sustainability with the power of lubrication. Using the most suitable lubricating oil and grease in the wind energy system saves the operator from high maintenance costs and expensive reparation works. Wind energy systems are located in remote and hard-to-access areas and operate under harsh climate conditions. They are equipped with critical components and subject to various challenges such as vibration, temperature, pollution, and mechanical load. Thus, unplanned downtimes can be prolonged. For these reasons, it is necessary and important to use automatic lubrication systems with products specific to the wind industry, which will increase profitability, prevent wear, and have proven technological success. Good lubrication brings together reliability, reduced maintenance costs and increased turbine efficiency. Wind turbines can be regarded as huge flowers which have critical metallic parts, requiring the best available lubricant product and lubrication method. Technical maintenance of turbines cannot be neglected.

Wind energy systems have different lubrication points as shown, and it is necessary to select the most suitable oil for each point. The availability of proven lubricant options in the market supports the wind energy industry. The second important point to be taken into consideration by wind energy manufacturers is to manage the used lubricating oil in comply with the legislation. Besides, in the context of producer responsibility, it is also important for each supplier to follow the oil waste management process.
