The chemical sector, a pioneering sector in Turkey in terms of industry, employment, and exports, impacts almost every production line. Therefore, the chemical sector has a crucial role and responsibility in achieving the circular economy target of the European Green Deal.
During our visit, Mr. Adil Pelister, President of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association (İKMİB), the umbrella organization of the chemical sector, informed us about new sectoral structures that will meet the necessities of this role and responsibility. İKMİB offers a roadmap to Turkish companies for adapting to the European Green Deal with its “Chemical Industry Sustainability Action Plan.” Additionally, it is finalizing preparations for the Chemistry Technology Center, which will provide privileged services to exporters with its technical infrastructure and extensive facilities. In our interview, President Adil Pelister shares detailed information about this significant investment that will elevate the Turkish chemical sector to the upper league.
There is a great need for international platforms that guide companies in determining sustainability strategies by providing educational and developmental recommendations, and that act as independent and unbiased evaluators of the work done. Our article about the Ecovadis platform, which holds a prestigious place worldwide for sharing experiences, improving competitive conditions, and independent rating, will also attract the attention of our lubricant companies.
CONDAT, an international company of French origin specializing in industrial lubricants, has proven its success in sustainability by earning the platinum medal awarded by Ecovadis. Celebrating its 170th anniversary this year, the company sets an example for the entire sector with its environmentally friendly solutions that make a difference in the formulation of greases and surfactants. More about this subject is available in the Panorama Worldwide section.
In the Close-Up section, we focus on the German company Evonik, which has developed a new technology offering fast and low-cost services, avoiding the time and cost labyrinth often faced by lubricant companies. Evonik, the world’s leading specialty chemicals manufacturer, specializes in versatile additives and high-performance methacrylate ester-based products. Operating in Turkey for over 40 years under the distributorship of ADCO, Evonik has developed the NUFLUX technology to provide privileged opportunities to lubricant manufacturers by optimizing maintenance costs, reducing downtime, and increasing productivity.
