As temperature rises, not only the engine but also the oil is put under stress. In engines operating at high temperatures, oil evaporation can lead to serious performance losses. One of the critical tests that measures this evaporation tendency is the Noack Volatility Test.
🔬 The Noack test measures the mass loss of an oil sample at temperatures close to 250°C over a fixed period. This shows how “volatile” the oil is — in other words, how much of it evaporates and disappears under high heat.
