Kline ranks Shell as the #1 global lubricants supplier based on finished lubricants sales volumes across automotive and industrial segments worldwide. According to the report, Shell has maintained its leading position with global market share at 11.6%, with global sales in 2024 being split almost evenly between the three segments: 37% consumer automotive, 32% industrial, and 31% commercial automotive.
The report provides a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of automotive and industrial finished lubricants products. The report assesses the use of lubricants across end use industries, trade classes and emerging market trends such as electric vehicles (EVs) and immersion cooling fluids (ICFs) in both the digital and energy infrastructure. Shell has once again held its number one ranking for all three lubricants categories: consumer automotive, commercial automotive and industrial.
Jason Wong, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Lubricants, noted that maintaining the top position for nineteen consecutive years underscores the importance of innovation and customer focus. He emphasized that Shell continues to invest in premium, high-efficiency products designed to deliver long-term value across different applications.
Kline’s Senior Project Manager, Sushmita Dutta, commented that Shell’s sustained leadership is the result of a consistent strategy combining technological investment with strong customer relationships. According to Dutta, this approach has enabled the company to remain competitive across diverse markets and applications.
Shell’s market leadership is supported by a broad portfolio of products widely used across major markets. In 2025, Shell Helix Ultra became one of the first brands to meet the new API SQ specifications, followed by the launch of Shell Advance Ultra with API SP approval, its most advanced motorcycle and scooter oil, also notable as the only premium motorcycle lubricant recommended by Ducati Corse.
The company renewed its long-standing partnership with BMW M Motorsport, introduced DLC Fluid S3, a direct liquid cooling solution for high-performance computing and AI, and later achieved an industry milestone when its immersion cooling fluids became the first to receive Intel certification for data center use.
Alongside these innovations, Shell has emphasized efficiency and sustainability, with advanced low-viscosity lubricants designed to improve fuel economy, extend equipment life, and help reduce emissions.
